All About Therapy
According to the American Psychological Association, “Psychologists help people of all ages live happier, healthier and more productive lives.” Through the use of various psychotherapy methods and collaborative treatment measures, my clients develop life-changing habits to help them cope with all of life’s various obstacles. At Alexandra Rebuck Psychotherapy, therapy sessions are designed to safely explore painful issues and provide clients with effective tools that help them develop an alternative understanding of how they relate to these issues and, in so doing, relieve pain.
Couple and Relational Therapy
Most relationships struggle at some point. I will offer you a safe contained space to put back together or improve the relationship you have. No relationship fails until both parties stop trying. I encourage both parties not to get bogged down in anger, blame and shame but rather to explore each other's unmet needs and find an empathic response through responsibility and respect. You will not always agree, but you can learn to respect and understand the differences.
Particularly in today's world families live under a huge amount of pressure and expectation; from within their families and from outside influences. We fear failure, vulnerability and not being good enough. Never before have we lived in a society that is so medicated, in debt, overweight and addicted. We stop listening and hearing each other. We are distracted by smart phones, tablets, computers and work. We feel not good enough and we look outwards for the answers. We do this to try to numb feelings, but in doing so we also numb joy, gratitude and happiness and then become miserable and seek instead to perfect our lives and our families.
We live in a world that is often complex, confusing, demanding and isolating. Personal, family, social, religious and political narratives can create beliefs that become 'truths'. Therapy offers a way to change the beliefs that make us feel powerless. I offer a safe, containing space to challenge these narratives, and create alternative belief systems to take their place.
